Family Vacation (from August)!

We had a wonderful vacation this year with a couple of dear friends from college.  The 3 families rented a house in Hilton Head for a week.  There were 6 adults and 6 kids.  Amazingly all of the kids got a long great!  I don't think I heard one fight the entire week (except between brother and sister)!

There was a 6 year old that Jaden LOVED, two 4 years olds, two 2 year olds and a 1 year old!  Needless to say, it was always busy!  Anyway, it was a BLAST!  We went in early August and arrived on a Saturday late afternoon and spent the day getting used to the house, ordering pizza and checking out the beach.  The next day we rented bikes with trailers so we could tool around Hilton Head seeing the sites.  We stayed back in an area covered by trees with amazing things to see.  We went on so many bike rides (and I have been inspired to buy a trailer for home because the kids loved it).  We went on our own and with both families.

We did some site-seeing and a little eating out, but mostly we stuck to the house, pool and beach!  Jaden and Brynna were sort of on different pages when it came to the water.  Brynna would like to go out the beach and dip her toes in and look for a bit and then she was ready to head back to the house.  Jaden would stay out FOREVER diving in waves.  Mr. Squirrel (a.k.a Ellis) took the kids out on body boards at the beginning of the week and Jaden couldn't get enough of the waves.  So, we spent a lot of time split up as a family.  They did love the pool too so we got our fair share of pooling in.

One day Gordon and I took the kids out to see some historical sites in Hilton Head.  We didn't get too far, but we did get to see old plantation ruins and old rice fields.  While in the rice fields, we saw an owl!  I'm pretty sure that has become Brynna's new favorite animal because she runs around saying, "What does an owl say, who who!"  One night on during one of Brynna's grumpy spells, I took Jaden out crab fishing with chicken legs with the Ellis family.  We didn't catch anything, but had a lot of fun!  We also rescued some starfish on the beach...Brynna loved that too.  Surprisingly, we got both kids to touch the starfish and toss them back in the water.

It was a great week away with a lot of relaxing and visiting with old friends!
