Jaden has been playing with the in-house might league for about a year. He sometimes plays in goal and sometimes out. That league has a travel team the Jr. Lightning. We haven't been keen on the idea of the travel team because it seems like a lot for a 7 year old. A lot of over nights and a lot of money. Well, the Jr. Lightning were asked to play after the first period of the Lightning game vs the Sabers. They only have one goalie so they asked Jaden to play in the goal!! He was thrilled!
It was such a fun experience. We had to meet there an hour or so before the game. Before they were taking inside a bunch of the boys were on camera for the pregame show.
All of the kids were shuffled downstairs to get changed...only 3 dads getting on hockey gear for 12 kids! After the first period, out the came. Jaden was the first one to take the ice! It was just amazing to see our little man out there. He skated out so confidently. The game lasted 3 minutes and he did GREAT! He had 3 big stops including a breakaway from the teams best player! The announcer went crazy!
After the game was over we went to pick him up and he had the biggest smile on his face. He said, "Mommy, I stopped the best player!" I asked him if he was nervous and he said, "So nervous. I was shaking so bad I bit my lip." We were so proud of him for pushing through the nerves and doing his best. It was really a night to remember!!
