Brynna's First Skating Competition

Oh my goodness....where to start?!?!?  Most who know us know that our family is an ice family.  Jaden loves his hockey and Brynna is becoming quite the little figure skater! :)  Well, last Friday (Nov. 9th), Brynna had her very first figure skating competition!!!

Brynna has been skating a little over a year now. She has practice once a week with her coach Ms. Diane.  She loves to skate.  Diane has been working with her on her skills and decided to start testing her a few months ago.  Brynna now has her tot1, tot2, tot3 and tot4 figure skating badges and certificates.  So, about a month and a half ago Diane asked if we thought Brynna would like to do this competition.  She then began teaching her a routine.  It was exactly 1 minute long and had to contain certain skills.  Brynna chose the song "Part of Your World" or as she calls it Ariel! :)  The skills she had to complete were T-Position and Push (Right And Left), One-Foot Snowplow Stop, Backward Wiggle, Backward Swizzle, Push and Glide Stroking, Forward Swizzle and a Dip.  Brynna got better and better as the weeks went on and then....the big DAY!!!

Friday started a little hectic as Jaden's bus was 30 minutes late and we had a 30 mile drive to Brandon for this competition.  Eek!  Mommy was stressed!  But, we got there about 50 minutes before she was to go on the ice.  She checked in and got a little goodie bag.  We went upstairs and got her dressed in her little tights and outfit, skates, pulled her hair up in a bun, put on just a little makeup (Mommy wouldn't do too much), and spray LOTS of glitter all over her head.  She LOVED it!

We were very much the newbie parents and seemed to be wandering most of the time not knowing what to do, but we managed.  Soon enough it was her time for practice!  She went with Ms. Diane on to the ice and practiced for 5 minutes and then it was time for her performance!

She skated out to her spot in the middle of the ice...she was all by herself!  Cute!

 

The music started and off she went, I was so proud of her for being so brave (later we found out that she was actually very nervous).  About halfway through her routine, the music stopped!  Ahhh!  But little Brynna kept on going.  She was about done with her routine and they started her music over for her and she did it all over again!  I was so excited and proud I started crying (just a little).  She was such a big girl.  She worked so hard and absolutely loved it.

We met her off the ice and daddy scooped her up and I handed her some little flowers and she just beamed!  After the scores were posted we saw that Brynna had earned 4 points for her team.  We headed upstairs and she got a medal!  She was so excited.  She kept saying all night, "This is my first medal, my first flowers and my first goodie bag!"

That day we watched a few big girls out there skating down jumps and twirls and Brynna's eyes lit up.  She said she wants to do that some day.   I'm not sure, but this may be the beginning for our little Brynna's figure skating career! :)
